Michelle, thanks for putting links in your stories so we can learn more about the things you mention.

You know, both my mom and I have food sensitivities and after this article I did more research about what it could be that bothered me if it wasnt MSG. Turns out it was probably gluten (which bothers me but I'm not always super strict about) and sodium! One of my favorite local Chinese restaurants doesn't use MSG, but I was still having problems.

A couple weekends ago I experimented with making my own low sodium, GF orange sauce and -- no issues.

So people could be having reactions but not know what's causing them.

Absolutely! And they should be investigated. But there’s always some other culprit. Soy sauce has enough gluten and sodium to cause you plenty of problems, no added MSG needed. Food stuff is so tricky!

Yep, for sure. But thanks for clearing up the MSG quesiton. My mom had so many problems with migraines and she was sure that did it. Wish we had known years ago.

The Colgate link wasn't working for me, but I did find this "This American Life" https://www.thisamericanlife.org/668/transcript

A friend of mine is a retired prominent orthopedic surgeon with a lot of stories. I sent him a note asking if he know Steel. Will report back...

I love your recipes but I just can't stand your political input. Typical Californian detached from reality. I'll have to unsubscribe.

Hey Jordan! 1 in 8 Americans is a Californian. Treating us like we are the fringe people in this country when that's the opposite of reality makes you the detached one. But you're right, if science and facts hurt your feelings and you don't want to grow and better yourself, I'm not the newsletter for you.

The line that gets me is “typical Californian” like seriously.

That was a huge leap in my logic, Jordan. I apologize. If you're still here I'd love to have a real conversation about this.

I have a friend who swears he’s allergic to msg with no true backing. I don’t question allergies usually. It’s not my business what you put in your body, but this one gets me. We have a mutual friend that makes tamales locally. We all eat them (including this friend). I decided I wanted to learn to make Costa Rican tamales so I joined them for their most recent weekend of cooking. Guess what’s inside. I haven’t told them that they are eating msg, but I think it might be time to share your article and have a conversation.

Hell yes. I’ll never push back on any “allergy” but this one. Don’t make me join you in your delusion and tasteless meals. I hope you open his eyes 🫔🫔🫔

I love when this gets brought back up from time to time and the real story is shared. It was absolutely just racist Drs having a laugh but peoples worst nature took over and it was believed. MSG makes food taste better, period. I’m all for it and the people that think it’s bad for them or that they are “allergic” can pound sand 🙄

It’s wild every single time I think about it. We’ve been eating flavorless food because of racists. What won’t they ruin?!

Not only that, but because the masses believe just about anything you tell them so long as it’s negative. I’ve said for a long time, the bigger the crowd, the lower that IQ. 🤦🏻‍♀️ sadly, common sense does not always prevail.
