Too many of us on the west coast know what your going through. It gives me anxiety just watching it onthe news. It’s like when will it be my turn. It isnt if it will happen but when. I cant think of a place on the west coast that isnt affected by fire. Stock up on n95 masks. They are very helpful when the air quality gets bad. They keep me from getting headaches.
The destruction is so heartbreaking. Stay safe. Capitalism is horrible.
I always think about the wild animals and pets people left.
I live in NJ. I lived in MI until 1980 when we moved to NJ. In MI it was common to hunker down in the basement for a tornado watch. There never was one where I lived thankfully. Tornadoes were unheard of in NJ but It's baffling that the last 10 years we have had more than a handful. I live in a 2nd floor condo, no basement, so I can't do anything anyway when we have a warning.
As a Californian I am so angry at so many people, mostly the billionaires who have eaten up our state, but also the total mismanagement of resources, especially after three years of extreme rain and snow. Where are all those taxes from the dispensary industry going? They promised they'd line the streets with gold.
I sit in my Nor Cal Gilroy home, insulated from the chain of disasters affecting the LA area. But not unaware of the human & wildlife toll and I'm seriously not comfortable with that. I've contributed to the LA Fire Department Foundation and will be donating to Restaurant Cares https://restaurantscare.org A bakery in SF is raising money for restaurant food/beverage workers impacted by the fires, https://blackjetbakery.com/collections/cakes-cupcakes/products/i-love-l-a-coconut-cake Too far for me to drive but I've asked if I can send money for baking supplies specifically for the I LOVE L.A. cakes, inspired by Randy Newman's classic LA anthem. Stay safe, stay strong and never give up hope that we, as a village can save this planet. We have no other options.
This is so well said. We need to do whatever we can to make plant centric and vegan life choices mainstream, available, and part of the many choices people can make to reduce the negative impact we have on the world. We can choose to reuse things, grow things, build community gardens and so forth, and embrace one another as we create new ways to live. Our future depends on it.
I honestly don’t know what to say 🥺 It’s just too horrific. I hear people say, LA will come back even stronger… but why do you have to be so strong?! Why be so resilient? So people in power can just say, “oh we’ll bounce back” when there is no bouncing back?! With that said, thanks for sharing this. In helplessness, I hope reaching out to us from the ashes gives you something to grab onto.
I've been thinking of my California people and that includes both of you. I'm just too angry about all this to say much more, so I'll stop here before I go off the rails.
I'm glad to hear you are safe still. Totally agree with all of this. However, I am not optimistic. Too many people are content to put their heads in the sand and zone out on small comforts. Too many idolize the elite and want to be like them. And far too many of us don't care about anyone outside our increasingly small social circles.
Hi Michelle, hopefully everyone is safe today. I’ve never experienced anything like what you described and my thoughts are with you all. Your message about climate change resonates with me. I do my part as you do. Some days it just seems so futile when I see the dismissal and ignorance around me for this delicate balance we have created. However, I, like others, will continue and do my best. Take care and as always thank you for being here. ❤️
Michelle, you are so sweet to be putting out newsletters, but please don't worry about it while this is happening. Focus on yourself. We can wait while you get through this. We all adore you and just want you to be safe. ♥️
I wasn’t expecting a newsletter today or tomorrow given the current circumstances you and others are in. I hope that everyone affected can get back to some sense of normalcy, whatever that may be. The national news doesn’t do it justice. Please stay safe over there.

Brilliant. Thank you for this cogent summary of where we are and what it means. Stay safe!

You are so right Michelle. The one's doing the most damage just don't care and won't stop because we are asking nicely.
Way to RAGE!
I’m big mad rn

THIS! You've totally put my rage into words.
